Painting is something that we don't mind doing. Once again, with our perfectionist attitude, painting is not something that everyone can do. Painting requires someone meticulous and patient, and there is nothing more hideous than a rushed paint job. We take the time to make sure everything is spectacular. We also can do things such as textured ceilings and walls. NOT popcorn ceilings, textured walls and ceilings with faux painting and veneer plaster. Veneer plaster is one of our favorite textures to work with. We can also do crown molding as seen in these pictures here.

It’s Time to get your House Painted-One Room at a Time!

Now that summer is around the corner you may want to take on a new project. As you look around your home, you realize that maybe it’s time to spruce things up a bit. So you decide to paint the interior of your home. Painting is no easy job, but you can have some fun with it. The days of white walls and boring colors are over. There’s so much you can do to make a room pop with color and change the whole look. So just how do you decide which color to use?

The first thing is to look at the furniture in your room. If you have dark colored furniture then perhaps you wouldn’t want to choose dark colors for the walls. Lighter colors may be more suitable. However; if you have lighter colored furniture, then you may want to choose more vibrant colors for the room. Still not sure? Visit your local Home depot or Lowe’s where you can usually get free advice. You can also browse through magazines for color ideas. There are many magazines like Southern Living that offer great decorating ideas.

After you’ve chosen your color you’ll want to prep your walls before painting them. Before you begin preparing your walls you should protect your furniture and flooring from any spattering paint or accidents. It would probably be best to remove any furniture if possible. Then make sure to wear clothes you aren’t worried about getting any paint on. Safety goggles will protect your eyes from any paint splatters. Now it’s time to prep your walls.

Wipe down your walls with a damp rag or clean with a vacuum cleaner. If you plan on painting your kitchen or your bathroom then wash the walls with soap and water. These are high traffic areas and the walls in these rooms probably have grease and soap scum build up.

Next, scrape any cracked paint with a paint scraper. Smooth over any plaster bumps with some sandpaper. You can use a sanding block or an electric sander. Make sure you have all the materials you need. You’ll need paint, primer, stir-sticks, roller covers, paint brushes, paint tray, gloves, an extension for the paint roller, and of course-a drop cloth. If you have an old sheet, that will work as your drop cloth.

Now its time to prime your wall. Choose a high quality primer to hide any imperfections. For new drywall, use a water-based primer. For walls with heavy stains from smoke damage or water, you’ll want to use an oil-based primer. Did I neglect to mention painters tape? You’ll need to protect your wall trim with painters tape!

So where do you begin? Always start in the corners and up near the ceiling using an angle brush. For harder to reach areas apply the paint with a smaller paint brush. If you’re not quite sure about the color, you can always paint on a small piece of wood or cardboard and hold it up to the wall to see if everything jives! Now what are you waiting for? It’s time to get your home painted-one room at a time!
